WHAT IS SELECT?

  • Spring Select at VGS is a more competitive program of All Star caliber players looking to advance their skills and play against other high-level teams in Southern California
  • This program is for 8U, 10U, 12U & 14U players who wish to improve their softball skills and thereby benefit themselves as well as their league
  • Select is a separate team that will run in parallel to the regular rec season (Select players participate in both teams at the same time)
  • Spring Select participation is limited to one day per week, except in January during which Select teams can meet two days per week prior to the regular rec season practices/games starting
  • Spring Select runs from January 1 thru April 6 at which time the league must stop the program in accordance with USA Softball
  • All girls are required to be registered at VGS before the tryout for the current season and participate during the normal rec season schedule with their team
SELECT TEAM ELIGIBILITY

  • Select players must be registered, drafted, and participate in a regular season rec league team in the current season
  • Select players must stop practicing or playing with a travel team by January 1 to be eligible to play on a Select Team
  • A player can play Travel Ball + VGS Rec (not Select), but must stop participation in Travel Ball by March 31 in order to be eligible for the summer All Star Season
  • Select players must play in a minimum of 75 percent of the leagues scheduled rec games during the current season
  • Select teams may be established in the 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U age classifications
  • Spring Select participation is limited to one day per week, except in January during which Select teams can meet two days per week prior to the regular rec season practices/games starting
  • A tryout does not guarantee selection to a team
  • After the tryouts have ended the coaches and designated board member will meet to determine Select rosters at which time the Board will ratify the rosters
  • Rosters cannot be changed without Board approval
